Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state was close to tears on Tuesday, April 26, when the bodies of the six medical doctors who died in an accident arrived the state.
The doctor had met their death after their vehicle crashed along Kaduna road on their way to Sokoto to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) on Sunda y.

The six doctors whose names were presented as: Alex Akinyele, Tunde Aladesanmi and Adeniyi James of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido- Ekiti (FETHI); Ojo Taiwo and Dr. Olajide of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH); Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Secretary; Dr John Ogunseye of the Health Management Board, Ekiti State; and a driver, Mr. Moses Ajibola of FETHI were ferried into Ado-Ekiti, the state capital at about 7.00pm, New Telegraph reports.

The governor reportedly led the convoy bearing the remains of the deceased from Fajuyi roundabout to the EKSUTH mortuary, where the bodies were deposited.

Residents, including some elderly people and youths lined on the road, as well as many other sympathisers, to mourn the the dead as some just kept wailing uncontrollably.
Fayose has since described the incident as the lowest point in the history of the state and a monumental loss not only to the people of Ekiti State but to Nigerians, declaring a three days of mourning for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The governor, who directed that all flags should be flown at half-mast, described the death as an eclipse of professional and intellectual figures, who lost their lives in active service to mankind, saying: “Ekiti has lost some of the best trees in its forest of medicine. I am deeply sad. This is one loss too many.”
